Lexus NX: System Description

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

POWER MIRROR CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

(a) This system has the following functions: power retract function, auto power retract function, electrical remote control function, reverse shift-linked function, memory function, automatic glare-resistant EC mirror function and mirror heater function.

FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENT

Component

Function

Vertical mirror motor

Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly and adjusts the mirror surface position vertically.

Horizontal mirror motor

Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly and adjusts the mirror surface position horizontally.

Power retract mirror motor

Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly, and retracts and returns the outer rear view mirror assembly.

Mirror heater

Receives a signal from the outer mirror control ECU assembly and operates the mirror heater.

EC mirror cell

Varies reflection rate of the mirror through function of EC elements.

Mirror retract switch

Retracts and returns the outer rear view mirror assembly. Mirror retract and return signals are sent to each outer mirror control ECU assembly from the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

Mirror select switch

Consists of the R and L switches. One must be chosen to operate the outer mirror switch assembly.

Mirror surface adjust switch

Mirror R and L signals are sent to each outer mirror control ECU assembly from the mirror select switch.

After selecting the R or L switch, the right, left, up and down control switches can be operated to change the angle of the mirror.

Mirror position sensor

Detects the mirror surface position. This data is detected by the outer mirror control ECU assembly.

Seat memory switch

When the seat memory M1, M2 or M3 switch is pressed while the SET switch is being pressed, or the M1, M2 or M3 switch is pressed within 3 seconds after the SET switch is pressed, a signal is input to the outer mirror control ECU assembly LH, which memorizes the mirror surface position.

When the seat memory switch is pressed, a signal is input to the outer mirror control ECU assembly LH and sent to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU), which changes the mirror surface position to the memorized position.

Outer mirror control ECU assembly

Operates each mirror motor based on signals from the outer mirror switch assembly, mirror select switch and mirror surface adjust switch.

Based on information from the mirror position sensor, 2 different mirror surface positions can be stored. By operating a seat memory switch, the mirror surface moves to the stored position.

SYSTEM OPERATION

(a) The remote control mirror has the following features.

Function

Outline

Electrical remote control mirror function

When the outer mirror switch assembly is operated, this function moves the mirror surface vertically or horizontally to enable the driver to attain an optimal mirror angle. Setting the mirror select switch to the R position operates the right mirror, and setting it to the L position operates the left mirror.

Power retract mirror function

Retracts and returns the outer rear view mirror assembly when the mirror retract switch is pressed.

AUTO power retract mirror function

Retracts and returns each outer rear view mirror assembly together with the following operations while the mirror retract switch is AUTO.

  • Key-linked lock/unlock
  • Wireless door lock/unlock
  • Wireless 30 second auto lock
  • Entry lock/unlock
  • Entry 30 second auto lock

Memory and reactivation function

When the SET switch and seat memory M1, M2 or M3 switch are pressed simultaneously, or the SET switch is pressed, and then the seat memory switch M1, M2 or M3 is pressed within 3 seconds, the mirror position is memorized.

Reverse shift-linked function of mirrors

Directs the mirror surface downward to improve visibility when driving in reverse and all the conditions below are met:

  • The power switch is on (IG)
  • The shift lever is moved to R
  • The mirror select switch is in the R or L position

Reverse shift-linked mirror position memorization function

Memorizes the mirror position when the outer mirror switch assembly is operated while the reverse shift-linked mirror function is operating (can be enabled or disabled using the customize function).

Mirror heater function

Automatically turns on the mirror heater when the rear window defogger switch (mirror heater switch) is turned on. The rear window defogger and mirror heaters automatically turn off after 15 minutes. For vehicles with an air conditioning system, there is a timer extension function which can operate the mirror heater function for up to an additional 45 minutes.

Automatic glare-resistant EC mirror function

Reduces glare/reflection in the mirror during nighttime driving for safe driving conditions.

Glare/reflection from vehicle headlights behind could blind the driver and cause dangerous driving conditions.
